Marraige//adoption system?

In Ragnarok Online there were family specific skills that could only be used on your partner, son or daughter. Mostly Heals, teleports, resurrects ect.

You also had things like shared exp for 'raising' your adopted child. (almost like being partied with your child only they wouldn't have to be with you in the group to gain exp, though this can be both good and bad.)

I just think it'd be neat to add more of an RPG element to the CORPG.
(It'd also be a pretty good money sink, as the Weddings in RO would eat up 1.25 mil per wedding, per partner, not including rings and dress//tux ect.)

Possible Skill ideas;

'Learn from your mistakes'

Parent skill could maybe remove death penalty over time or per monster kill under the enchantment's duration for their adopted child.

'I would give my life for you.'

Family member sacrifices 10-50% health and energy and target family member gains 10-50% health and energy.

'Family Reunion'

Resurrect target dead family member. Family Member is resurrected with 25% health and 25% energy + 10% health and 10% energy for each family member within earshot. Recharges on morale boost.

Perhaps even more titles; (without the need for grind!)

'Loyal'

'Unfaithful'

'Mother knows best.'

'Spoiled Brat'

Ect.

Unbalanced/PvE-only/consumables and other conditional skills have ruined the gameplay enough. More skills is the last thing GW needs.

Where would this be used?

They can't be used in PvP, since all you'd see would be orphans and happily wed couples running around doing their family things.

PvE? 90% of PvE is already at pre-searing Ascalon difficulty.

Some things are cool on some games. Headshots for example. Or magic mushrooms. That doesn't mean that GW needs to add every single concept there is. Some things just don't fit.

No, please compare GW with games like UT but not RO.

Marriage and adoption is something the sims would implement not only because it is a part of the game mechanics, but they are also trying to create alternate reality to suck people in, GW is consciously trying to remind players that this is a game rather than a life.

Agree with Antheus, some features are just not fit in certain games.

signed...peoples above are wrong, with this opinion you can play direct counterstrike ...

Don't forbid people to compare with existing MMORPG's, only because you don't like RPG's in general (it seems) and wish GW to be a UT/CS Clone .

Hmm, I at öeast say, that I want see it not anymore in GW1, but I want see a Marriage System for GW2.

Marrigages belong to Life, also like "Wars" are part of the life of our virtual avatars, so does marriage ...
When you can't understand, that there exist people out there, which want to show other friends ingame their special relationship by letting their characters marry, then you simply are too ignorant and intolerant for a MMO Game

I am not forbidding people doing comparison, I am saying the comparison he made was an apple and horse comparison. Not all games can be compared the same way just because their content delivery systems are similar (online).

Would you like to have a french fries maker and a toilet seat in your car?
Are those equips a part of life? Yes.
Is it going to make your life more convenient? Yes
Why not getting them in your car? There is a certain level of common sense involved in this topic, that's how we determine A/C and Radio should be included in cars and not a fries maker.

While marriage would be nice (YES some people have fun with roleplaying. If you dislike this idea, then blame Anet for events...), I don't see why it would give you advantages.

These life simulation ideas constantly coming up such as marriage, children, changing a characters looks AFTER creation etc. make my stomach twist and turn in the worst possible way. If something like that would be implemented I would stop supporting the game and move on to something else more mature. I try to avoid these kinds of "cute, anime, sim" games because I don't see them as anything original or self-respecting as games that really have goals and ambition in them. (I have a lot of respect for the GW art team for their visions and skills to deliver.) To me something like this would be more like giving up and forgetting the actual game aspect of the game and making it more of a child's play type of thing catering to the players every wish and desire.

Not to mention being able to change the actual looks of your character afterwards sort of kills the idea of there being armor, handgear, headgear etc. and it would easily confuse a lot of people with character looks constantly being changed. It would probably be very illogical too e.g. for a dark tanned character to suddenly go pale. If I want to have a marriage or kids ingame I will start playing sims or something but I would absolutelly detest it if my current favourite game turned into a sim. If we get everything we want it would without a doubt ruin the feeling of achievement ingame and make us respect our characters and achievements less. A game without challenge where you can have everything is a very dull thing. Bottom line is I want fantasy, not real life simulation. That is a whole different genre and a huge deal of why I like GW is because I like the genre it represents which is NOT sim games.

Although all this at this point is highly unrealistic what with GW2 coming out. I would still not want these type of implements in the future game either.

Nothing personal to anyone, please understand that. Please don't flame me or deny me my opinion.

honestly this is the most mature and best response ive heard in a while, i agree catering to the players every need is just stupid, its like the little kids who cried they couldnt get survivors title when they first started so there going to change the way it works (I.E can die but have to earn, blah blah amount of experience without dying, if u die start earning the experience up again), thos little things put us "Major" players off, who dont bitch when something doesnt go ourway, oh and if uwant children marriage ETC, go play SIMS this is a RPG designed to be like roman style wars, not fairy little tea parties.

Honestly if this happened i could see more and more of the cyber 12 yr old boys coming out the closet to mary the other 12 yr old boys who are coming out the closet aswell.

simple answer u want a game about "real life" play SIMS

Nian, if you dislike some aspect of the game, nobody forces you to use it, especially if it doesn't advantage people, which is why I think it shouldn't.

I dislike "elite" areas, while I spend most of my time in PvE ; but they are way too planned. You must have some cookie-cutter build, move at X moment, and while they are long and some people might leave, when they do, your chances to win are really thin in most cases. Still, I don't see why I should complain because of it, it's not mandatory.

But that is not a good enough reason for me to accept it's implementation. It would be there and I would not be able to avoid seeing it especially the way it supposedly works as described above. It would make me cringe hard everytime I'd have to see it. Elite missions aren't really being pushed onto our faces what with some guildies talking about it once in a while but if you're not in the actual place of the mission you don't really see it. When I started out I didn't know what "taxi to deep" meant so seeing it didn't really bother me. Adopted kids, marriage outfits, family related skills on the other hand...how would I avoid all that?

No offense meant ofcourse.

Anet could make an option like "show/don't show family-related stuff".
But I agree with you, family related skills just suck ; plus it would make everyone asking you to marry or adopt them...

I'd find the most hardcore PvE farmers and have them adopt me and powerlevel me to legendary survivor while being afk the entire time!

The RO marriage and adoption is a bit silly.

All of them look like 15 years old. So they can't marry. Adoption turns a 15 year old character into a 10 years old character... (how come?) And changed the character giving her more disvantages than advantages.

On top of that, there are ONLY 26 available slots. That makes 10PvE, 10PvP and 6 pre-Searing.

No room for adopted ones.

Silly, silly idea. It was silly in the first game that implemented them and is still silly now.

You wanna get married? Play real life instead.
